On July 24th, our team at HomeBase headed out in the land yacht to the Senator Michael Hastings Golf Classic. It was a beautiful day at George Dunne National golf course. The HomeBase team was excited to set up as a sponsor and greet golfers as they arrived – with the Senator Hastings banner as a backdrop.
Senator Hastings has a long list of accomplishments starting from a young age. In honor of this, we put together a top ten list of things to know about Mike Hastings!
- He was born and raised in Orland Hills, IL
- Hastings is one of SIX children!
- He was an Illinois All- State Football player
- He got his start in politics at Victor J. Andrew High School in Tinley Park where he served as student government president
- Hastings attended West Point where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree and played on Army’s Division-I football team
- He deployed to Iraq where he later was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for his meritorious service in a combat zone
- In 2009, Hastings began his public service career with his election to the Board of Education High School District 230
- In 2012, he was elected to the 98th General Assembly in the Illinois State Senate
- Hastings holds the title of, “youngest servicing Senator in Illinois”
